Mountain Loop Highway

Headed out of town today just to get away from town.  We have both been working so hard that it was just nice to get away for a little while with Indy.  We headed up to the Mountain Loop Highway.  It is always a nice drive in the summer time, and it was a BEAUTIFUL day.

We went the to Granite Falls and then went clockwise around the loop.  We stopped at the trailhead for the Monte Cristo Trail, but we didn't get too far because a bridge at the beginning of the trail was washed out. We knew this going into it, but really just wanted to check out the river (South Fork of the Sauk River). Jared was hopeful and brought his fishing gear, but to no avail.  We could never get "down" to the river where it looked like good fishing.  That's ok though we had a good day and got to see some pretty scenery.

Jared and Indy striking a pose.  As you can see, Jared had his gear and was ready to fish.  Indy on the other hand was perfectly happy taking dips in all of those rivers.  She was a happy dog!

As we progressed around the loop, we also stopped off at the main Sauk.  The river was flowing nicely and we saw some people floating down the river as well.

After we hit Darrington, we headed back to the Seattle area.  In order to do this, we drove through the Oso Mudslide Area -- let's just say that the road is back open, but there are not words to describe the devastation that still exists there.  It literally looked like the hill just exploded.  Truly sad that all of those people lost their lives totally unaware that it was going to happen.  The good news is that just this week, they finally found the last body from the mudslide.
