Black Bear -- OH MY!

Well, it was certainly an interesting morning this morning! We had heard about numerous bear sightings for quite some time (from our neighbors), but the sightings had died down and we, personally, never saw the bear or even remnants of a bear.

That being said, we were both in our PJ's around 9am this morning.  It was a very leisurely morning; Jared was watching a little television while Kristina was making some pancakes for breakfast.  Then all of a sudden Jared looks at Kristina intently and tells her to come to him RIGHT NOW.  It was a very odd look that Jared had on his face, so Kristina obliged and to her amazement, she saw this...

There was a black bear in the BACKYARD and he was pillaging the squirrel's peanut box!  Man, that bear went to town and ate peanuts until they were mostly depleted.  In the process, the squirrel box was completely bear-handled and now needs to be replaced.  After finishing, the bear headed towards the bird seed feeder.

Here's a nice side shot of the bear...

After arriving the bear started sizing up the task.  See the bear gazing up at the bird feeder.

Okay, let's grab it and pull it down to a more respectable eating level.

Yum, that's pretty good stuff.

Bird feeder bounces from the bear's hands and the feeder starts to bounce around...

Jared likes this photo because you can see the bear watching the feeder out of the corner of the eye.

This is just a full on frontal view of the bear...looks like it is looking straight into the camera!

And now we know that the bear is a HE...look how tall he is.  He is definitely at tall as Jared, if not a little taller.

OH SNAP!  The feeder put up a good fight (or should we say the branch and string put up a good fight), but ultimately the bear finally won.  He took the feeder back to the corner of the yard and proceeded to eat all of the bird seed in the feeder.

Huh?  You looking at me?

Here's a shot so that you can see the bear in proximity to his placement in the yard.

Now that he had finished two courses, he was ready for the THIRD -- SUET!

He successfully took one of the suet blocks out of the suet feeder and headed back towards Kristina's hammock to enjoy his DESSERT!  He is thinking this was a pretty good meal!

He was in the yard for about 30 minutes and was quiet entertaining to watch.  Jared took most of the pictures through a window or from the back deck.  We successfully locked Indy's doggie door, but that didn't keep her from barking her head off when she finally noticed it.  Let's just say, it was quite a morning!
