While this sounds like an easy task, it was no easy task for the front door in this house. Ever since we first saw the house with our Realtor, we noticed that the door stuck. You had to literally put your shoulder in it at times to get it to open, and on the flip side, getting it to close once you were inside the house was an equally daunting task. That being said, Jared adjusted it and adjusted it without much improvement. We found out that it would have to be replaced due to the fact that the door had a metal frame and didn't have any "give" in it. That being said, over time, the house has settled making the problem what it is today.
So, we visited http://www.franklumberthedoorstore.com/. The one located in Shoreline, WA was the closest one to us. This place makes custom doors and if you choose, you can get local lumber from the Marysville, WA. We thought that sounded like a great idea because we knew that we wanted something substantial, and what's more substantial than SOLID WOOD!
After several visits to Frank's, we finally figured out what we wanted, so we ordered it. Since it was a custom order, we had time to find someone to finish the door and install the door once it arrived. Jared found a someone, Jamie, and he did a great job. When the door arrived at Frank's, Jamie picked it up, took it to his shop, and applied FIVE coats of urethane. We had decided that we wanted just the natural look of the wood to shine through and we wanted it satin, not glossy. They did a great job and they arrived today with the door for installation.
The new doors look absolutely wonderful. Here's a shot of what they look like from the inside of the house. The windows have a maple leaf glass in them, so people can't view in, but light can come in and brighten the entry way.
And here's what they look like from the outside. You can really get a feel for the glass etching in this photo.
The front of the house looks completely different now. We might have to paint the outside of the house sooner than we had hoped since the doors look so good! :)
Oh, and by the way...the doors open and close like butter! Thank goodness!
